Things are moving along with regards to planning my trip cross country. I have moved out of my apartment, rented an AWEOSOME house with 2 very cool people to save some money. One of my roommates is taking the trek with me. He has committed to a month of the trip with me. I think he is going to do the whole thing, we'll see. I am incredibly grateful for all his efforts since he has decided to do this....he has been amazing!
As I mentioned in my last blog, I am riding for three charities. Trees for the Future, CT chapter of Surfrider and Playing for Change. Playing for Change has been the charity that has really made a mark, especially for me and Ken (my riding partner). It is a really beautiful thing that they have created; something I really beleive in. As a whole, throughout the world we are uplifted by music. It doesn't matter which kind of music, we can all appreciate and understand the love of it and how it moves us, inspires us, makes a sprint that last 1/4 mile, cry, laugh, you name it! This is where we can all come together. Where we can all try to understand one another, through the power of music. The love that it brings into our life is powerful.
I have gone through a lot of self doubt lately, wondering whether or not I am capable if accomplishing this goal I have set out to do. I sat down to watch the Playing for Change: Peace Through Music Documentary with Ken the other night. It reaffirmed my inspiration and vision for this ride.
Thanks to Ken, we got to speak with Shauna, a representative for Playing for Change. We spoke to her for almost an hour. It was really motivating to start developing a relationship and to share stories and experiences and share in the same vision. If all goes well, when we go see the Playing for Change band we will get to meet them!!! WOOOHOOOOO!
I wanted to do something to raise awareness for what was important to living this life in this day and time in the world. I can't imagine anything more important than to try and be a little nicer first to ourselves so we can then be nicer towards others and to our planet. We belong to this Earth, not it to us. The better we take care of ourselves by eating local and organic (when you can), practice yoga, meditate, breathe, recycle, reduce, reuse, be a leader, join in, take the extra step, stop and pay attention to what and who surrounds you and find gratitude, the better off we will all be.
At this moment, whoever reads this, take this moment to stop and look around you. What do you see? What do you here? What do you feel? Honor it and take care of it. What we project out to the world is only mirrored back to us, so think good thoughts and do good action and speak kindly and carefully.
